Fees & Rebates

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee is $267 for a standard 50 minute session.

Holding Hearts Psychology is committed to providing an affordable service for clients. Fees are the same for face-to-face and telehealth sessions. Our fee structure is as follows:

Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes and can be conducted face to face or online.

Session Fees

Fees listed below are for sessions either face to face or via telehealth:

  • Medicare: $230 ($141.75 out of pocket following $88.25 Medicare rebate)

  • Private: $230 (Health insurance rebates may apply)

Additional Service Fees

  • No additional fees apply for brief documentation requiring less than 15 minutes, such as an attendance letter.

  • Documentation requiring 15 minutes or longer will be charged proportionally to the time taken. Sarah will let you know if a fee applies and provide an estimated cost for the service at the time the request is made.

Medicare:
Mental Health Care Plan

Eligible clients may claim a Medicare rebate for individual therapy if you have a ‘Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)’ referral from your GP or Psychiatrist. Up to 20 sessions can be rebated per calendar year by Medicare. Please make a long appointment with your GP to discuss your eligibility.

At the end of your appointment, you will be invoiced the full session fee and your Medicare rebate will be claimed through Halaxy. Medicare will deposit the rebate into your nominated bank account. Please note this can take up to 24 hours for funds to appear in your account.

Clients do not need a referral from a GP. A referral is only needed if you wish to claim Medicare rebates.

It is important to note that couples therapy is not eligible under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You may be able to claim couples therapy under private health insurance but please confirm with your insurer.

It is the client's responsibility to ensure that if utilising a Mental Health Treatment Plan, that re-referrals are sought from their GP as required. Generally, clients are required to complete a re-referral after 4-6 sessions. This is specified in the GP referral. If a client does not complete the re-referral appointment prior to the necessary appointment (often the 7th and 11th appointments), they will be required to pay the usual session fee, but will not be eligible for a rebate.

Telehealth

Telehealth psychology sessions are available for clients in specific rural and remote areas. The Federal Government has recently extended Telehealth psychology provisions to the wider population affected by COVID-19 until 31 December 2025. Telehealth may be provided either via video-conference or telephone consultation.

Cancellation Policy

Late cancelled appointments impact not only a client’s treatment progress, but also on the client’s psychologist, who has set an hour of their time aside to see the client; as well as other clients on Holding Heart Psychology’s waiting list who need to see a psychologist as soon as possible. For these reasons, if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we require at least 48 hours’ notice.

If you are unable to attend the clinic because of unexpected symptoms related to COVID-19, a telehealth appointment will be offered to you.

If you reschedule or cancel your appointment within this period or fail to attend, the following fees will apply (inclusive of GST) unless there are extenuating circumstances:

  • 48+ Hours’ Notice: No Fee;

  • 24 – 48 Hours’ Notice: Half Session Fee;

  • 0 – 24 Hours’ Notice: Full Session Fee.

Unfortunately no Medicare rebate is available for cancelled appointments.
